Anymyfavoritemovies, I have only recently discovered the benefit of SIRIUS Satellite Radio--their Broadway station. On it I recently heard two Phantom of the Opera songs. The first was the title track ("he's here, the Phantom of the Opera!") and the second was "Prima Donna," which is probably my favorite song from the album. When I got home, I youtubed it and was reminded all over again of that abortion of a movie.

(I've never actually seen the musical. The children's abridged version of the book--with pictures--was a formative part of my childhood; I checked it out of the library over and over again. Then I read it in French in high school. And someone had given my parents the CD when I was little.)

I had very high hopes for the movie when I saw the teaser trailer,* but it was all downhill from there. Even the actual trailer was a disappointment. But you know I watched at least two youtube videos (besides the teaser) including my other favorite song, "Masquerade." That inspired me to switch over to Marie Antoinette--I like masked balls in general.

(It's also one of my favorite movie soundtracks.)

I liked Kirsten Dunst a lot before Marie Antoinette (The Virgin Suicides, Interview with a Vampire, Jumanji, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Bring It On, etc.), but it cemented my love for her. And the rest of the cast.**

I need to see this again, stat.

Since I live for silly coincidences, I have to mention it: I saw an absolute doppleganger tonight for Jason Schwartzman (and then this picture).
He was, unfortunately, washing his hands in a suburban bathroom.

Anyway, I've only even seen "that abortion of a movie" too. I think I actually stayed until the end, but I'm not sure.

(I'd kind of like to see this children's version of the story actually. )

And now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to investigate these Lanvin ads further.

Jason--Perfect! Just the place to see a Jason Schwartzman doppleganger. I need to see his brother (Rober Carmine)'s doppleganger--if it's in a bathroom, so be it, I'll make do.

That book was wonderful. The series was something like "Abridged Classics" and included Dracula and Frankenstein. These (along with The Headless Cupid and The Westing Game were the formative books of my childhood.

The Lanvin ads--aren't they wonderful? Normally I wait a couple months before before I tear up my magazines to scan them, but I had to destroy these right away. All for the blog.

Carried away in the excitement. Make that Robert Carmine.
